Leading from the top

The only style statement worth making – the Leader and Deputy Leader show the way with pale yellow ties:

Nick Clegg arrives in Liverpool with Simon Hughes

Fashpolitico needs YOU!

A turn of events means that Fashpolitico is now mainly spending her political days in Brussels.  This means a whole new realm of political fashion, but also that she is not spending much time at the Conferences.

So this year Fashpolitico is crowdsourcing pictures for her blog.  Send me your pictures of top politicos sashaying through the halls of power.  Whether its party leaders and first ladies, political researchers, lobbyists or journalists,  Fashpolitico needs your pictures of Conference Fashion.  So what can we expect from Liverpool?

Firstly Nick Clegg will be freed from the difficulty of looking too matching with Cameron – they seem to have improved their fashion co-ordination, but in the early days of the coalition the matching look was not good.

Secondly I expect to see an array of gold ties.  These are very much back in vogue with Clegg spending most of his time stadning in for Cameron this summer in a clear ‘look I’m a Lib Dem not a Conservative’ gold tie.

Britain's Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg helps children make pizzas during a visit to the Shepherd's Bush Families Project and Children's Centre August 18, 2010 in west London. Mr Clegg, whose visit comes on the 100th day that the coalition has been in Government, stated earlier today that no final decision has been taken on whether to cut child benefit or the winter fuel allowance in October's comprehensive spending review.

Thirdly Fashpolitico would love to lay to rest the ‘beard and sandals’ cliche of what a Lib Dem activist looks like.  She is sure that there must be activists who can rock a yellow look well and she challenges you to seek them out and raise the game in the fashion political stakes.

Fashpolitico awaits your contributions…  Tweet me @AnneFairweather or comment on this piece.
